Be Not Afraid

31 Days of Facing My Fears: Day 12 Switching My Focus

If you’ve been following my blog, you know that today was a difficult day for me.  From the minute I got up at five a.m. this morning, I had butterflies in my stomach.  And I imagine they’ll be there until I get the results of my PET scan tomorrow at two thirty p.m.  Which is why this was so necessary for me:

(My prayer intention sheet that I brought with me into my PET scan.)Prayers During PET scan

I cannot thank you enough for sending me your prayer intentions.  I knew that today was a day in which I could choose to wallow in self-pity and fear, and obsess about my own anxieties and worries.  But instead, thanks to you, I have spent the day praying for your honest, beautiful intentions.  Thank you for sharing your lives with me, and for helping me switch the focus from myself to that of the world.  Thank you for helping me remember that the world is bigger than me, and that we all suffer in different ways.  For in doing this, you helped me face one of my greatest fears with a feeling of solidarity and a sense of joy.

Thank you also for the outpouring of support and love you have showed me.  You have made me feel so loved, and I will carry this love with me tomorrow.

My prayer for you today is that when you’re facing something that scares you, something that brings you anxiety, you consider turning your focus outward.  For remembering the suffering of the rest of the world will help you put your own suffering in perspective, which in turn will help you re-discover joy.

As always, thank you for all of your support and love, and thank you for joining me on my 31 day challenge!
